Ok.....I am dumbfounded...or Dumbed down
Why do Asians pick their noses in public?
This has been bothering me for quite a few years but I have tactfully avoided the subject except during friendly conversations with fellow foreigners.
I arrived home to my hotel at about 5:30pm and discovered that the electricity was out....YET AGAIN. 1,000 years of civilization and the Vietnamese can't keep the electricity on. It's somewhat a slap in the face isn't it?
Anyway, I went to my room and changed out of "teaching" clothes and put on more comfortable "street" clothes. I preceded to venture to my balcony for a beer and smoke. Ahoy...they are playing tennis on what is supposed to be the swimming pool advertised in the hotel ad.
As I was watching this spectacle of a sport, I noticed 3 Vietnamese men clinging to the fence watching the nightly sporting event.
And then it happened......the covert dig into the nose which wasn't particularly covert. The dig started innocently enough. First the idle nose rub. Than the tantalizing "dip in the pool" nose flick ending with the "dig 'em deep boys" nose dive which culminated in wiping the payload onto the wire fence.
All day in Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, Korea and Taiwan I can see people, publicly and with total disregard to others, digging in their noses. What is the craze?
I shall prove my point soon with my "undercover" pictures I will be posting soon for I am going to click my phone camera every time I see this cultural event for now on.
